Cookie Policy
Last updated: September 22, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Physweb ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies — including browser local storage — on physweb.com. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. This policy is written for visitors located in the United States.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website can place on your device to remember information about you or your session. "Similar technologies" include browser local storage and session storage, which work like cookies but are stored differently. Some of these are set directly by Physweb ("first-party"); others are set by services we use, such as Stripe or Google Analytics ("third-party").
2. How We Use Them
We use cookies and local storage for three purposes:
- Necessary / functional: to keep you signed in, remember your light/dark theme preference, and remember your last-used Metaverse display name. Physweb currently stores these in your browser's local storage rather than as traditional server-set cookies, but they serve the same purpose. The Service will not function correctly without them.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and usage patterns so we can improve the Service. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (see the table below).
- Payments: when you check out or manage your subscription, you're directed to a page hosted by our payment processor, Stripe, which sets its own cookies for fraud prevention. We do not control these cookies directly — see Stripe's privacy policy for detail.
We do not use cookies or local storage for third-party advertising.
3. Cookies and Local Storage We Use
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _gid, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors and sessions to help us understand aggregate site usage. | Up to 2 years |
| __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Stripe | Fraud prevention during checkout and billing-portal sessions, set on Stripe’s own domain. | Up to 1 year |
| theme | Physweb (local storage) | Remembers your light/dark mode preference. | Until cleared |
| user_id / auth state | Physweb (local storage) | Keeps you signed in between visits. | Until you log out or clear it |
| physweb-metaverse-username | Physweb (local storage) | Remembers the display name you last used in the Metaverse. | Until cleared |
4. Your Choices
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and clear local storage, through their settings — check your browser's help documentation for instructions. You can also opt out of Google Analytics specifically using Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Note that blocking necessary local storage will prevent core features — like staying signed in or keeping your theme preference — from working.
5. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no accepted industry standard for how sites should respond to it, and we do not currently change our behavior based on this signal.
6. A Note on Regional Requirements
This policy is written for visitors located in the United States. Some regions, including the European Union and United Kingdom, require websites to obtain your consent before setting non-essential cookies, typically through a cookie-consent banner shown before any such cookies load. Physweb does not currently present a region-specific consent banner. If you are located in one of these regions, please be aware that analytics cookies described above may be set upon your visit.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
